We stand in a circle and play a game. We are to choose two other people in the circle and stay the same distance from them. But we do not indicate who we have chosen – it’s unsaid. We move but must keep our relation to the other two people. It’s a triangular relationship and difficult to maintain if you ‘partners’ exchange places!

Hybrid Studios in Brussels isn’t the easiest venue to find. But I join the opening circle before it ends, introducing myself and saying my background is in dancing contact improvisation.

Sometimes, compliments come in the most oblique ways: ‘Are you dancing?’ said the man in the park at the end of our outdoor dance session in Oxford called Dance in the Park.
At London Contact improvisation on 5 & 12 May 2018, Rick Nodine taught classes for contact improvisation. We examined bringing new qualities into our movement and widening our attention beyond the contact point between dancing bodies.
A friend ask me if it was possible to teach contact improvisation. Good question – it’s improvised after-all!
Veronica Cordova de la Rosa gave a talk entitled ‘Images of violence from Mexico : a performance based enquiry’ about her art and PhD study, on Tuesday 21 March at Common Ground – a pop-up workspace on Little Clarendon Street, Oxford. Formerly, it was a Barclays Bank and the talk was in the disused bank vault. A performance by attendees followed.

At Meeting Points on Sunday 11 March, we explored our new ideas and interests in dance, including one using a bungee rope that Naomi had brought with her.
